This site is my contribution to help get Square Dancing more noticed in Wales and around the UK. There are one or two other things here as well.

DANCING SHOULD ALWAYS BE FUN

Barn dances or ceilidhs, call them what you will, have been around for a long time. They were the social occasion for the village or town when everyone could get together and have a good time, it was a chance to meet people. They are still good fun with little chance of anyone getting bored. You need no experience just be willing to join in and have a go. You will usually find a mix of dances including circle dances, running sets, contras and squares etc.

So you want a day to remember, have a Barn Dance and that is guaranteed.

If it’s a wedding, a party or just a fun night you will think of it as a really good time. There are no barriers to say who should dance with who. Everyone gets mixed up and often you will dance with most, if not all the people there. You will be amazed how many people you can meet at one dance.

When someone asks me about a Barn Dance one of the first things I say is “NO experience needed”. I will tell you what you should do and remind you as you are dancing.......

ANYONE CAN DO IT!

If you have a hall full of experienced country dancers then that is a different matter and I will then call dances to match their ability. The ability of the dancers always sets the pace.

To really enjoy a Barn Dance you need two things from your guests:- The first is a sense of humour, the second is a willingness to join in.
